Extrication Team, Road Traffic Collision Demonstration
What to Expect
London Fire Brigade’s vehicle extrication team is made up of frontline operational officers and firefighters with a passion for learning and development around road traffic collisions, as well as the response to these incidents. We share our learnings with colleagues at events and CPD workshops held by the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) throughout the UK each year.
As part of the Blue Light Show, the London Fire Brigade’s Extrication Team will be carrying out a live demonstration of how we respond to road traffic collisions (RTCs).
This is a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of how firefighters deal with serious incidents on London’s roads. The demonstration will show:
- How we assess risk, and manage the hazards found at the scene of a road traffic collision
- How we manage risk to protect the casualty, our crews, and the public
- Our casualty-centred approach, focusing on communication, triage and safe removal from a vehicle involved in a collision
- Modern extrication techniques, including the consideration of the EXIT Project and vehicle relocation methods if appropriate and showcasing of modern equipment and extrication techniques
- Use of tools, teamwork, and nationally recognised best practices from the UKRO (United Kingdom Rescue Organisation).
You should expect to witness the skill, coordination and professionalism that underpin our operational response, with the casualty’s welfare at the forefront of everything we do.
