Tom Perry

Chief Inspector , West Yorkshire Police

Chief Inspector Tom Perry has 18 years policing experience, across two of the largest forces in the country. In Thames Valley Police, Tom worked across predominantly Uniformed Patrol and Crime roles, where Tom qualified as a Detective Constable, with experience across volume crime, drugs and organised crime. Tom later became a uniformed Patrol Sergeant and was promoted to the Force Control Room where he qualified as a Pursuit Commander.  Tom transferred to West Yorkshire in 2017.

In West Yorkshire, Tom has spent much of his service working in Leeds District, where he worked for a period before joining Operational Support for the creation of a centralised Contact Management function. From here, Tom worked as a Temporary Inspector, and was promoted back to Leeds, working as a Patrol Inspector in the North-East region of the District. Tom moved onto Neighbourhood Policing, with responsibility for the South of the City. As part of this role, Tom became the Policing lead for the Leeds On-Street Sex Working Partnership, which dedicated itself to the safety of some of the most vulnerable women in the city. Tom was promoted to Temporary Chief Inspector in 2023, where he held the portfolio for Operations within Leeds District, before being formally promoted to Chief Inspector for Contact Management, within Operational Support the same year.

Since this posting, Tom has qualified as a Tactical Firearms Commander and maintained skills and accreditations in Post-Incident Management and Public Order Command.

Tom is the lead for Trauma Tracker, a STAR funded initiative via the Office of the Chief Police Scientific Adviser. Trauma Tracker utilises policing systems to plot attendance at the most traumatic policing incidents, prompting early wellbeing intervention via structured supervisor-led debriefs. Trauma Tracker visualises this aggregated data to offer insights into challenges, trends and effective solutions. The project is the current winner of the National Police Wellbeing Service Award for Trauma and Suicide Prevention.
