London Cycle Response Unit Lead, St John Ambulance

In the heart of the City of London, an innovative partnership is helping keep busy streets safe while providing volunteers with a unique way to serve their community. St John Ambulance’s London Cycle Response Unit regularly deploys alongside the City of London Police Cycle Team. Funded by the Eastern City Business Improvement District, the partnership is a powerful example of the public, private and third sectors working together.

Equipped with specialist kit and travelling by bicycle, volunteers can navigate crowded streets quickly to reach people who need urgent help. Since May 2025, cycle responders have attended more than 150 incidents across the Square Mile, including cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions, assaults, intoxication and mental health emergencies. Their rapid response means people receive immediate care while reducing demand on frontline emergency services.
