Julia Wellby
Working closely with colleagues, partners and external experts, Julia helps to advance our strategic priorities by developing important relationships, and sharing and gathering insight, during and outside of emergency appeals.
From providing key intelligence to sharing knowledge of survivors’ needs that help inform our activities during emergencies, her work ensures those affected receive the support they need, as soon as they need it.
Julia joined the Trust in 2024 after working within the Metropolitan Police force for more than 30 years, where she built invaluable relationships with those in the emergency response community. She began her career as a uniform officer and became a detective in 1997. She later trained as a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) and joined SO15, the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, where she led on the UK Family Liaison Crisis Response to all overseas terrorist attacks affecting British nationals.
Whilst at SO15, Julia was requested to sit on a Cross Whitehall Ministerial Committee at the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to help identify better ways the UK government and Police could support victims of terrorist attacks. In 2017 this committee went on to form the Home Office Victims of Terrorism Unit, which Julia advises on.
