Amanda-Jane Balfour
Amanda Balfour is an accomplished leader with a career spanning law enforcement, government, and the private sector. She began her career as a Crime Scene Examiner with Greater Manchester Police and became Head of the Crime Scene Unit.
She held senior roles at the Forensic Science Service, leading the National DNA Expansion Programme and the National DNA Prisoner Sampling Programme, and led on its transformation to a Government Owned Company.
Amanda then moved into regulatory leadership before joining the Senior Civil Service. She has held operational and programme delivery roles, focusing on frontline services and complex programme delivery and reform.
She is an accredited Government Major Programmes Portfolio (GMPP) Review Team Leader for the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA), supporting departments with complex programme delivery. In 2025 Amanda was appointed as the Home Office’s Director of Forensic Services.
