Level 4 Protective Security Adviser

Mercury Training Stand: AT-T46
A Level 4 Protective Security Adviser works with leaders, risk managers, HR, IT, and physical security teams to deliver effective security outcomes across all industries. They also liaise with national bodies like NPSA, NCSC, and NACE. This apprenticeship shows security as a business enabler, supporting organisational goals—not just as a protective function.

Aimed at professionals in security and facilities management, the 21-month programme covers risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, technology, procedures, security deployment, and fostering a positive security culture.

Key responsibilities include carrying out vulnerability and risk assessments, threat analysis, developing security plans, and coordinating protective measures across departments and supply chains. Advisers use a “converged approach” that brings together personnel, physical, technical, and cyber security to close gaps between these areas and stop threats from exploiting weaknesses.

Typical roles include Deputy Security Adviser, Security Manager, Security Specialist, Operations Manager, and similar positions. Advisers work in public, private, and third sectors, either directly or through specialist providers. The role is relevant to all Critical National Infrastructure sectors—like energy, transport, finance, health, government, and more—as well as areas such as construction, property management, technology, and academia.
