British Transport Police Federation brings welfare vehicle to Blue Light Show

British Transport Police Federation brings welfare vehicle to Blue Light Show

The Blue Light Show is proud to announce a partnership with the British Transport Police (BTP) Federation, the staff association representing over 3,000 police Constables, Sergeants, Inspectors, Chief Inspectors and Special Constables serving in British Transport Police.

As a highlight of the partnership, the Federation will bring its purpose-built welfare and wellbeing vehicle to the show: a converted Peugeot Boxer that was unveiled at the Federation's annual conference in Southampton in September 2025. First tested operationally at Ascot and subsequently deployed at a BTP wellbeing event in Glasgow, the vehicle makes its trade show debut at the Blue Light Show, where it will be available to officers and emergency service personnel throughout both days of the event.

The vehicle has been designed to provide a safe, private, and comfortable space for frontline officers during major incidents, events, Federation roadshows, and wellbeing days. Its facilities include comfortable seating, a private area for phone calls, the ability to make hot drinks and heat food, and multiple charging point, addressing a critical gap in the welfare provision many officers currently experience during extended operational deployments.

Stuart Cowan, Chair of BTP Federation, said: "This vehicle is a direct investment in our members. It's about their wellbeing, their access to support and advice, and their connection with the Federation. It fills a critical gap by providing facilities that many officers currently lack during operational deployments. A hot drink and the opportunity to dry off and make a quick call home can make all the difference during ongoing incidents."

Beyond providing respite, the vehicle also acts as a mobile base for Federation representatives and partner organisations, including wellbeing advisors, police charities, and member service providers, to engage with members face to face, wherever they are in the country. The BTP Federation covers forces from the far north of Scotland to London, and the vehicle is intended to strengthen members' access to support services wherever they are deployed.

The vehicle's presence at the Blue Light Show is especially fitting given this year's programme. The event will feature an immersive, multi-day live major incident scenario, offering emergency service personnel a realistic training environment that mirrors the pressures of real operational deployments, precisely the conditions where welfare provision like this is most needed.

Stuart Cowan added: "We hope the vehicle will improve communication and members' access to the Federation, as well as services provided by partners and stakeholders, particularly those invested in our members' health and wellbeing."

Alongside its welfare vehicle, the BTP Federation will also be on hand at the show to discuss its wider work on behalf of members, including financial resilience. Research indicates that frontline officers are disproportionately targeted by high-risk financial products, and the Federation works with trusted mutual partners to provide access to safer, tailored financial solutions and improve financial awareness across the workforce.
