Firefighting is acknowledged as a class one cancer risk profession by the international agency for research on cancer, part of the world health organisation, and has been since June 2022.

It stands logically therefore, that blue light agencies who work alongside fire crews must also be at risk, especially police and ambulance staff .

Whilst the fire services of the UK in local authority, aviation, and defence have made significant progress in tackling the risk on contaminants, working on awareness and procedures, these are in the main missing in other agencies,

I am seeking to raise awareness to protect all responders.

If you attend fires in any capacity, you need to know the issues, the risks and what you can do to reduce your own risk because the threat is real and present.
