Effectiveness of Firefighter PPE against Contaminants
This presentation explores how firefighter PPE can reduce exposure to hazardous contaminants and limit secondary contamination. It will examine structural ensembles, particulate-blocking hoods and specialist garments, with a focus on appropriate PPE selection for operational safety.
Drawing on findings from the NFCC Hygeia Project, the presentation highlights key exposure pathways, differences in protective performance, opportunities to improve PPE design and decontamination practices to better protect firefighter health.
