It provides a forum for discussion on interservice collaboration in the drive for best practice and efficient resourcing whilst understanding the needs of the different services and staff groups within to create smarter procurement strategies – for example female specific equipment, PPE and uniforms.
Staffing & Culture to Meet the Diverse Needs of both Communities and Staff
This theme will follow the lessons learned theme and underscores the importance of fostering a diverse, inclusive, and well-trained workforce within the blue light services to effectively serve diverse communities. It highlights the need for collaborative efforts across police, fire, ambulance and voluntary services to overcome recruitment challenges, understand where the next generation of Blue Light staff are coming from and create a cohesive and culturally competent emergency response network.
Another element of this theme is to celebrate the achievements within the services, encouraging people to join and stay in the sector by shining a spotlight on great case studies and real-life champions.
The Current Challenges and Future of Blue Light Services – Understanding the Current and Changing Landscape Affecting the Emergency Services
This theme explores the current challenges faced by blue light services and how these demands will change over the coming years. Focusing on the necessary equipment, training and finance required to meet these demands, combined with cross service collaboration, it examines the impact of issues such as climate change, the complexities introduced by new technologies - including the management of electric vehicle fires, artificial intelligence, drones and augmented reality. It will also dive into the effects of increased urbanisation, the rising threat of cybersecurity breaches, illegal immigration and terrorism. By understanding these diverse challenges, the theme aims to ensure that blue light services remain well-prepared and adaptable to the evolving landscape of emergency response.
Health & Wellbeing to Support a Healthy and Productive Workforce
Health and well-being are pressing concerns across all blue light services affecting staff retention and recruitment. Issues such as anxiety, PST, trauma risk management, suicide, an aging workforce, bullying and undermining communication, menopause, contaminate and injury management are just some of the challenges that are prevalent in every service. This theme aims to provide a platform for sharing these difficulties and exploring innovative initiatives designed to support staff more effectively than ever before.
