Restricted Access Rescue

Watch a live rope rescue through the tightest of spaces.

When there's no high anchor and no direct path, the English reeve system delivers. This live demonstration, run in collaboration with London Fire Brigade, showcases a versatile reeve setup used to extract a casualty through a narrow opening, operating both horizontally and vertically where conventional rescue systems cannot.

A specialised restricted access stretcher fitted with a tilting bridle will be used to guide the rescuer and casualty through the confined space, before recovering them to a position of safety, demonstrating one of the most technically demanding rescue disciplines in the field.

After the demonstration, the Lyon Work & Rescue team will be on hand to discuss the system in detail and explore what these techniques could mean for your operations.

Why Attend This Demonstration?

Restricted access rescue presents some of the most complex challenges in technical rope rescue. When there is no viable high anchor directly above a casualty, and when the only path to safety is through a confined or narrow opening, a reeve system becomes the critical tool that enables independent horizontal and vertical movement with full control and a robust safety backup.

Seeing the English reeve deployed alongside a tilting bridle stretcher in a real-world scenario, with London Fire Brigade on the ground, brings a level of authenticity and operational insight that no training manual can replicate.

You'll gain:

  • A clear understanding of when and why a reeve system must be employed over standard rescue setups, and the scenarios it is uniquely suited to.
  • First-hand sight of a single English reeve line providing independent horizontal and vertical movement, backed up by a safety and push-pull control line.
  • Insight into the specific advantages of a tilting bridle for navigating casualties through restricted or narrow openings.
  • The ability to explain the operational and safety benefits of this system to colleagues and decision-makers in your organisation.
  • Direct access to the Lyon Work & Rescue team to explore how restricted access techniques could strengthen your rescue capability.
